What is Veganuary?

Veganuary started in 2014 and is a campaign which encourages people worldwide to try vegan for January.

The campaign’s official website has a fantastic selection of tips and advice, from recipes covering breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks and sweet treats, through to eating guides and nutritional information.

Veganuary in the UK

The theme for the 2024 campaign in the UK plays on the expected forthcoming general election and reminds Britons that ‘they need not wait until the general election to cast a vote for a greener planet, lower food bills and better health in new campaign ads urging them to Vote for Veggies this January’.

The advertisements will pay homage to the 2019 election slogans of Britain’s main political parties, and include:

Lettuce: Stronger, More Stable, In the National Interest

Flavour: For the Many, Not the Few

Change Britain’s Breakfast

'Take direct action'

Veganuary’s international head of policy and communications, Toni Vernelli, said: “While much of Britain is rightly focused on the next general election and how it will impact issues that affect them, Veganuary is issuing a reminder that we need not wait to cast a vote for a greener planet, lower food bills and better health for our families – eating plants can do all of this!

“By Voting for Veggies this January and signing up for Veganuary, everyone can take direct action on these critical issues. No protests, prison sentences or politicians required.”
