What is Sage?

Sage is most well known in the UK when served with a roast chicken as part of the sage and onion stuffing. However, sage does have a long history of culinary and medicinal use. It was mentioned in John Gerrards 1597 ‘Herball’ but its reputation actually dates back to the middle ages, with many sayings referring to its medicinal values.

Apparently Sage plants can seem to ‘sweat’ in the heat, which is one of the things that led the early herbalists to explore its uses.

Sage is often chosen by women and can be used alongside other products like Soya Isoflavones or Red Clover.
