Asafoetida is a gum derived from a variety of Giant Fennel.

With a strong, pungent smell, even small amounts of Asafoetida adds a depth of flavour and savouriness to food.

Typically used as a flavouring agent in Indian Cooking, Asafoetida can be used in a wide variety of cooking, commonly used to flavour curries.

Asafoetida is also used in pretty much any dish onions or garlic would would be used.

It is not generally recommended to use Asafoetida at the same time as onions and garlic and the flavour would be overpowering but a small amount of Asafoetida in place of onions or garlic can give a gentle lift to the dish.

Suitable for vegetarians.
