Barley flakes are rolled barley grains — a versatile, beta-glucan-rich grain flake with a pleasantly chewy texture and a deeper, maltier flavour than oat flakes. These certified organic barley flakes from Just Natural Organic cook to a hearty porridge in 5–7 minutes and add texture, flavour, and nutritional depth to granola, muesli, and baked goods.
Rich in beta-glucan (barley is the second richest source after oats), selenium, manganese, and B vitamins. Contains gluten.
Certified organic by the Soil Association. Plastic-free, home-compostable packaging. Available in 500g.
Cook as porridge (1:3 ratio, 5–7 minutes). Mix into muesli or granola for added chewiness and malt flavour. Add to bread dough for a seeded grain loaf. Use in flapjacks. Add to Scotch broth as an alternative to whole barley.
Recipe idea — Barley & Oat Muesli: Combine 150g barley flakes, 150g porridge oats, 50g sunflower seeds, 50g pumpkin seeds, 50g sultanas, 50g dried cranberries, and 1 tsp cinnamon. Mix well and store in a jar. Eat with cold milk (soak overnight for softer texture) or as porridge. The barley flakes add a malty depth that elevates standard muesli considerably.
