Black quinoa is the rarest and most distinctively flavoured of the three quinoa varieties — earthier, slightly sweeter, and with the firmest texture of all, remaining pleasantly al dente after cooking. These certified organic black quinoa from Just Natural Organic cook to a striking dark charcoal-black colour that creates dramatic visual contrast in salads and grain bowls.
Nutritionally identical to white and red quinoa — complete plant protein with all nine essential amino acids, manganese, magnesium, and iron — with the addition of the dark pigment antioxidants. Naturally gluten-free.
Certified organic by the Soil Association. Plastic-free, home-compostable packaging. Available in 500g.
Rinse before cooking. Cook 1:2 ratio for 18–20 minutes. Holds shape well — ideal for salads, grain bowls, and dishes where visual impact matters. Also works beautifully in the Tri Colour Quinoa blend.
Recipe idea — Black Quinoa & Avocado Grain Bowl: Cook 200g black quinoa and cool. Layer in bowls with sliced avocado, edamame, shredded red cabbage, cucumber ribbons, and sesame seeds. Dress with tamari, sesame oil, rice vinegar, and a touch of maple syrup. The midnight-black quinoa against the vibrant vegetables creates a restaurant-quality grain bowl at home in 20 minutes.

FAQs
What makes black quinoa different?
Black quinoa has the firmest texture and earthiest, slightly sweeter flavour of the three varieties. It holds its shape the best after cooking — superior for salads and dishes served cold. The dark pigment contributes additional antioxidants beyond those in white quinoa.
Is black quinoa gluten-free?
Yes — naturally gluten-free.
How long does it take to cook?
18–20 minutes in a 1:2 ratio. It takes slightly longer than white quinoa due to its firmer outer coat. Rest covered for 5 minutes before serving.
