Butter beans (also called lima beans) are the largest and creamiest of the common beans — broad, flat, ivory-white with a distinctively buttery, starchy, velvety texture when cooked. These certified organic butter beans from Just Natural Organic are the bean for hearty British stews, Greek gigantes plaki (giant beans baked in tomato), and Spanish cocido. Their size and creaminess make them outstanding in dishes where the bean is a hero ingredient rather than a supporting player.
High in plant protein (21g/100g), folate, manganese, iron, potassium, and dietary fibre.

Soak overnight, cook 60–90 minutes. Use in Greek gigantes, British stews, Moroccan lamb dishes, and as a standalone side with olive oil and herbs.
Recipe idea — Greek Gigantes Plaki: Cook 300g butter beans until just tender. Fry 1 onion, 4 garlic cloves, 2 tsp smoked paprika in olive oil. Add 400g tomatoes, 1 tbsp honey, fresh thyme, and 150ml stock. Add the beans. Bake in an ovenproof dish at 180°C for 45 minutes until the sauce is thick and caramelised on top. Serve at room temperature with crusty bread. A legendary Greek dish that showcases the butter bean's remarkable creaminess.
