FAQs
Is couscous actually a grain?
Couscous is often treated as a grain but is actually a pasta — tiny balls of semolina dough that have been rolled and steam-cooked. It originates from the Maghreb region of North Africa and is the national dish of Morocco, Algeria, and Tunisia.
Does couscous contain gluten?
Yes — it is made from durum wheat semolina. Not suitable for coeliac disease or gluten intolerance. For gluten-free alternatives, try quinoa, millet, or cauliflower couscous.
