Haricot beans are the small, white, oval bean best known as the "baked bean" — the classic tin of baked beans uses haricot beans, but homemade from dried is a completely different, far superior experience. These certified organic haricot beans from Just Natural Organic also form the basis of French cassoulet, Italian pasta e fagioli, and British navy bean soup.
High in plant protein (23g/100g), folate, manganese, iron, and very high dietary fibre. Low glycaemic index.
Certified organic by the Soil Association. Plastic-free. Available in 500g.
Soak overnight, cook 60–90 minutes. Use in homemade baked beans, cassoulet, pasta e fagioli, and white bean soups. Puree for a creamy white bean dip.
Recipe idea — Homemade Baked Beans: Cook 300g haricot beans until tender. Fry 1 onion, 2 garlic cloves. Add 400g passata, 1 tbsp treacle, 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce, 1 tsp mustard, 1 tsp smoked paprika, and the beans. Simmer 20 minutes. Serve on wholemeal toast. Transformatively better than tinned — deeper flavour, better texture, no preservatives.

FAQs
Are haricot beans the same as baked beans?
Yes — the beans in commercially canned baked beans are haricot (navy) beans in tomato sauce. Cooking them from dried and making your own sauce produces a dramatically superior result.
Do they need soaking?
Yes — soak 8–12 hours. Cook 60–90 minutes.
