Millet is one of the world's oldest cultivated grains — a tiny, round, golden seed with a mild, slightly nutty flavour and the remarkable property of being naturally alkaline-forming in the body. These certified organic millet grains from Just Natural Organic cook to a fluffy, light texture — slightly similar to couscous but with a more robust nutritional profile and naturally gluten-free.
Millet provides magnesium, phosphorus, manganese, copper, and B vitamins, along with phenolic antioxidants and dietary fibre. It is one of the most easily digestible grains available and traditionally associated with digestive health.
Certified organic by the Soil Association. Plastic-free, home-compostable packaging. Available in 500g.
Cook 1:2.5 ratio for 20 minutes. Use as a fluffy side dish in place of rice or couscous. Use in grain bowls, pilafs, stuffed vegetables, and porridge. Mix into veggie burgers and falafels as a binder. Use in gluten-free bread.
Recipe idea — Millet & Roasted Vegetable Pilaf: Toast 200g millet in a dry pan for 3 minutes until fragrant. Add 500ml vegetable stock, bring to boil, then cover and cook on low for 20 minutes. Meanwhile roast cherry tomatoes, courgette, and red pepper with olive oil and herbs at 200°C for 25 minutes. Fluff the millet with a fork and combine with vegetables, fresh herbs, lemon juice, and toasted pine nuts. A light, nutritious grain dish that works warm or cold.

FAQs
Is millet gluten-free?
Yes — millet is naturally gluten-free, making it one of the best ancient grains for those with coeliac disease or gluten sensitivity.
What does millet taste like?
Mild and slightly nutty, with a flavour that absorbs sauces and seasonings well. Toasting in a dry pan before cooking (3 minutes) significantly deepens the flavour.
Is millet the same as bird seed?
Millet is indeed commonly used in wild bird seed mixes, but the food-grade millet sold here is hulled, cleaned, and intended for human consumption — a staple grain in Africa, India, and China for millennia.
