Medjool-style pitted dates are nature's most concentrated source of quick-release natural energy — each date provides around 23g of carbohydrates, predominantly fructose and glucose, alongside meaningful amounts of potassium, magnesium, copper, and Vitamin B6. These certified organic pitted dates from Just Natural Organic are ready to eat straight from the bag — the stones have been removed for convenience while keeping the fruit whole and intact.
Dates are also a good source of dietary fibre, which moderates the release of their natural sugars. They contain polyphenol antioxidants including flavonoids, carotenoids, and phenolic acid, and are one of the oldest cultivated fruits in the world — grown in North Africa and the Middle East for over 5,000 years.
Certified organic by the Soil Association. Plastic-free, home-compostable packaging. Available in 250g, 500g and 1000g.
Eat straight from the bag. Blend into smoothies for natural sweetness. Use as a sugar substitute in energy balls, raw brownies, and bliss bars. Stuff with almond butter, tahini, or a walnut. Blend into caramel sauces. Use in Moroccan tagines, sticky toffee pudding, or date and walnut cake.
Recipe idea — 3-Ingredient Date Caramel Sauce: Blend 200g pitted dates with 150ml warm water and 2 tbsp almond butter until completely smooth. Add a pinch of sea salt and 1 tsp vanilla extract. Blend again. The result is a rich, deeply caramel-flavoured sauce with no refined sugar — perfect over porridge, ice cream, or as a dip for apple slices. Store in the fridge for up to 2 weeks.

FAQs
Are dates high in sugar?
Yes — dates contain around 63g of sugar per 100g, predominantly as fructose and glucose. However, they also provide 8g of dietary fibre per 100g, which slows the release of these sugars into the bloodstream. Dates have a lower glycaemic impact than their sugar content alone would suggest. As with all high-sugar foods, moderate portions are advisable — a typical serving of 2–3 dates provides around 18g of natural sugar alongside meaningful fibre and minerals.
Can I use dates to replace sugar in baking?
Yes — dates are an excellent natural sugar substitute. To make date paste, blend 200g pitted dates with 120ml warm water until smooth. Use 1:1 in place of sugar in cakes, cookies, and flapjacks. The natural fructose caramelises beautifully and adds a rich, slightly toffee-like depth of flavour.
Are these medjool dates?
These are pitted organic dates — sourced from the Deglet Noor or similar varieties rather than medjool. They are smaller and firmer than medjool dates, with a slightly less sticky, more concentrated flavour — ideal for blending, cooking, and energy balls. Medjool dates are typically sold with stones intact and are a separate variety.
Are dates good for energy?
Yes — dates are one of the best natural pre-exercise energy foods, providing quick-release natural sugars alongside potassium (important for muscle function) and magnesium. They have been used as a high-energy travel food in the Middle East for thousands of years.
Are these gluten-free?
Yes — dates are naturally gluten-free. Packed in a facility handling gluten-containing grains.
