FAQs
Can I substitute quinoa flour 1:1 for plain flour?
Not directly. Quinoa flour lacks gluten, so it behaves differently in recipes that require gluten for structure (bread, pastry). In pancakes, flatbreads, and cookies it can be used as the sole flour. In cakes and bread, use as 25–30% of the flour weight alongside wheat flour (or in a gluten-free blend) for best results.
Is quinoa flour gluten-free?
Yes — quinoa is naturally gluten-free. Ideal for those with coeliac disease, though check the label for cross-contamination information.
Does quinoa flour taste different from wheat flour?
Yes — it has a mild, slightly earthy, nutty flavour. In recipes with strong flavours (spices, chocolate, banana), the quinoa taste is undetectable. In delicate light recipes, it adds a subtle earthiness that is generally pleasant.
